Music route: Ciutat Vella underground. Skate, rock and punk

Ander García will lead a three-hour walking tour through the rawest Ciutat Vella in Barcelona: the one that gave birth to street skateboarding, hid punk in basements, and resisted on a diet of vinyl and fanzines long before the neighbourhood became trendy.

We will walk along the axis that goes from the concrete to the stage: a former factory converted into one of the first skate plazas in Europe, the cradle of underground rap, breakdancing, and graffiti; an architect-designed square that became a global skateboarding mecca; a historic artery of countercultural trade where punks, metalheads, and goths bought imported vinyl before the internet. Along the way, live punk and metal, grunge with a hidden skate bowl, crust punk, and one of the city's first monitored squares, ending with a tribute to the history of the electric guitar.

Each stop brings its exact soundtrack and its own layer of history: workers' strikes, 80s urban tribes, DIY self-management culture, and the constant tension between underground memory and gentrification. At several points along the route we will stop to listen together, so bring your own headphones.

Who is Ander García?

Ander has been skating since he was 8 years old, when he saw some older kids from his balcony jumping over obstacles on a board with wheels — his aunt, seeing him so enthusiastic, bought him what in the Basque Country is called a 'sancheski', a skateboard, and he never parted with it. That world was closely linked to music: growing up watching VHS tapes of professionals doing impossible tricks to a soundtrack of Bad Religion, Metallica, or Public Enemy — from punk to rap, via metal — shaped his personality and defined a lifestyle that he maintains to this day, at that crossroads between skateboarding and music that continues to set urban trends.

Duration: 3 hours. On foot. Moderate level. Bring your own headphones — there will be shared listening moments.
