Sounds of the Latin American diaspora in Madrid

Meeting to share our roots, navigating through memories and, on the tapestry of the present, reviving memory to continue being ourselves, with what we were, what we brought, and what we are now. Our musical routes are urban journeys under a single common thread that connects music with specific places in the city.

On this musical route, we will be walking through Madrid, guided by Esteban Mira, our Postal Sounder. Esteban Mira is a cultural manager, holder of a Master's degree in Literary Studies, and an enthusiast of music and the stories behind it. He has researched the birth of the music industry and the rise of popular genres in his native Medellín, Colombia, and is currently focusing his research on the diverse musical expressions brought to Spain by the Latin American diaspora.

During the route, we will have periods of silence to listen to stories and some sounds, and stretches where that same story opens up conversation: about migration processes, about what it means to reconnect with your music —and with your people— far from home. Esteban guides the common thread; we build the conversation together.

We will pass through various corners of the city where different rhythms of Latin America —salsa, cumbia, Caribbean folklore, Brazilian, Mexican, and Argentine sounds— continue to play in the hands of those who brought them from home. We are not going to tell you in advance where these places are: that is part of the journey, let yourself be surprised.

Come with comfortable shoes, we will be moving on foot through the city, with a desire to chat and, if you feel like it, to dance. The ticket does not include drinks at any location, that is at everyone's own expense.
